Hilarious stand-up show from comedian, Nicola Houghton. Getting to the root of class and how it makes us tick. A show about surviving in the world of an underfunded working class town, thanks to home knitted t-shirts, raffle prizes and treasures found in the canal. But once you’ve survived, what happens if you want a job that isn’t in the local office, shop or factory? How do you leapfrog the barriers into the professional jobs world of the middle classes and what happens when you get there?
The story of a working-class northern girl who finally broke into that world and is now living in London, trying to fight classism - whilst parenting three children...who prefer olives to gravy.
The show deals with the everyman topic of living and trying to make it in a world where working class towns are underfunded and higher education has become harder to access, not just in terms of loans but in terms of all the extracurricular activities needed to make an application successful. It deals with the class barriers of money and education. It also looks at the challenges of accessing a profession afterwards, especially a creative one with the low/no pay entry level positions that are centred in London.
The show had a successful run at both the Greater Manchester and Camden Fringe Festivals 2019 and Leicester Comedy Festival 2020 and then Covid changed everything, so more dates TBC.
